Deer
In 1999 Xcell conducted a very experimental venture into China’s Xinjiang province, our objective was to locate an elk bull that produced an outstanding head of velvet, then to extract semen from this bull and market it locally, Neville Cunningham from Taringa elk farms was invited along to act as our specialist deer consultant. Successfully he located a bull that was producing 26kg velvet. This was the heaviest velvet being produced at the time to the best of our knowledge.
In 2001 Xcell performed the first insemination on 60 elk cows in China; the success has grown from there to additional bulls having semen collected and processed, and larger numbers of elk cows being successfully inseminated on an annual basis across China.
